16MM (1968) "BULLITT" starring STEVE McQUEEN ROBERT VAUGHN JACQUELINE
BISSET ROBERT DUVALL From his early sci-fi 1950's role in The
Blob, The Sand Pebbles, and The Great Escape, Steve McQueen is
remembered for his serious dramatic roles playing a smart, courageous,
tuff guy, who also loved to do many of his own stunts including
motorcycle and automobile chase scenes
(McQueen said his favorite race car was a hot little Mini Cooper). In
this 1968 police thriller McQueen plays a San Francisco (great SF
footage) cop assigned to protect a mob stool pigeon. The plot and
filming are about as realistic as they come, particularly the automobile
chase scene, which many remember as the grand daddy of all chase scenes
back in the day, rating up there with the all time number one chase in
The French Connection. Fans of classic cars who love the Mustang and
Charger will be well pleased with their match up in this chase that won
an Oscar. If you like dramatic realistic action on film, you will love
the footage in Bullitt! This print is complete on Eastman stock with
some wear. |

16MM MOVIE FILM "DOG DAY AFTERNOON"1975 starring AL PACINO, JOHN CAZALE,
CHARLES DURNING, SONNY BOYAR-Based on a true 1972 story, Sidney
Lumet's 1975 drama Dog Day Afternoon chronicles a unique bank robbery on
a hot summer afternoon in New York City. Shortly before closing time,
scheming loser Sonny (Al Pacino) and his slow-witted buddy, Sal (John
Cazale), burst into a Brooklyn bank for what should be a run-of-the-mill
robbery, but everything goes wrong, beginning with the fact that there
is almost no money in the bank. The situation swiftly escalates, as
Sonny and Sal take hostages; enough cops to police the tri-state area
surround the bank; a large Sonny-sympathetic crowd gathers to watch; the
media arrive to complete the circus; and police captain Moretti (Charles
Durning) tries to negotiate with Sonny while keeping the volatile
spectacle under control. When Sonny's lover, Leon (Chris Sarandon),
tries to talk Sonny out of the bank, we learn the robbery's motive: to
finance Leon's sex-change operation. Sonny demands a plane to escape,
but the end is near once menacingly cool FBI agent Sheldon (James
Broderick) arrives to take over the negotiations. Shooting on location
in New York, Sidney Lumet and Oscar-winning writer Frank Pierson
maintain an objective view of a potentially exploitative story, grasping
both the human comedy of an absurd situation and the utter seriousness
of what's at stake. Sonny and Sal are not so much stereotypical figures
of ridicule as they are lost souls at the mercy of forces beyond their
control and comprehension. Yet they are not romanticized; neither cops
nor robbers come off well. Dog Day Afternoon found a large 1975 audience
for its oddball yet timely story, with all of the lead actors,
especially Al Pacino, winning kudos for their bravura performances.
Tapping into contemporary tensions over law, media, and sexuality, with
Pacino's confused antihero at the center of the melee, Dog Day Afternoon
is a quintessential 1970s story, devoid of unequivocal good guys and
replete with public and private turmoil.

16MM film print starring Al Pacino as "SERPICO", a true story
based upon the 15-year tenure of NYPD Detective Frank 'Paco' Serpico.
Serpico set the example in the early 1970's of a young long-hair bearded
undercover cop that refused to be bribed. Serpico took on the
establishment of what was revealed in the 1971 Knapp Commission to be a
culture of crocked cops on the take in NYC. Although Al Pacino would not
win the Best Actor Oscar until 1993 for SCENT OF A WOMAN (he had already
earned seven nominations for Best beginning in 1973 for THE GODFATHER,
1974 SERPICO, 1975 THE GODFATHER: PART II, 1976 for DOG DAY AFTERNOON,
1980 in JUSTICE FOR ALL, 1991 DICK TRACY, 1993 for GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS),
we all knew Pacino’s performance was worthy of a win. But with the
competition of superb acting performances that year such as Robert
Redford in THE STING, Jack Nicholson in THE LAST DETAIL, Marlon Brando
in ULTIMO TANGO A PARIGI, and Jack Lemmon who won the Oscar in SAVE THE
TIGER, it is understandable how a superb performance can fail to win
Best. This print is on three full 1600 foot reels on Agfa 2S stock and
the color is good. Paramount logo is at the beginning and there are few splices. |

Suddenly! starring Frank Sinatra Sterling Hayden James Gleason, and
Nancy gates on DVD.
Nothing ever happens in the sleepy California town of Suddenly. Nothing,
that is, until Sinatra, and his band of paid killers, takes over a house
in the small town. Their mission is to assassinate the president of the
United States when the train he is traveling on makes a brief stop.
They decide to seize a house on a hill overlooking the train station by
posing as FBI agents trying to secure the house. The house they seize
belongs to a retired secret service agent and his family who are soon
taken hostage by Sinatra's gang. A white-knuckle thriller with Sinatra
excellent as a thoroughly detestable villain. |

16MM FEATURE FILM SHAMUS (1973) Starring Burt Reynolds, Dyane Cannon, Giorgio
Tozzi, Joe Santos, John Ryan
Directed by Buzz Kulick***(three stars)
Exciting but mindless story of off-beat private eye trying to crack
bizarre case while recovering from numerous beatings, jumping's, and
other heroic exploits. Leonard Maltin's Film Guide
A kind of 70's spoofed-up "The Big Sleep" with Burt as a Sam Spade-like

roles. Good Brooklyn locales. Lots of fun.1.33:1 of original 1.85:1
aspect ratio Original, not a dupe or reduction. FILM STOCK: EASTMAN "4b"
COLOR Slightly warming, but still has good color, density, sharp
focus. PRINT CONDITION: GOOD -VERY GOOD Some lines throughout, very few
splices. SOUND: EXCELLENT *Mounted on two 1600' metal reels (one very
full) in film can with nicely printed label. |
